"The first time I visited Sifu Jon Rister's class at the Wu Hsin Kuen
Academy of Martial Arts, I was not sure what to expect. With my line of
work, and a very busy and hectic schedule, I was looking for a reality
based close quarter combat system, with a quality instructor that was not
full of himself. The very first time I met Sifu Rister, I found an
extremely competent instructor with a great personality. His skill in

"I have to be prepared to defend my life and the lives of others every
day I go to work. A mistake on my part can cost lives. My training in
Wu Hsin Kuen is what gives me confidence that in the end of the day I

I have been practising Wu Hsin Kuen in Finland since 2001 under sifu
Rister's student, sifu Hietala. After I saw sifu Rister for the first
time in his yearly seminar in Finland, I had no doubt about his skill
and dedication on teaching effective martial arts. The biggest
surprise is that every year I have been amazed again and again. The
more I have learned the art, the more I respect sifu Rister's skill
and dedication. He is a living proof of what hard work, commitment,
passion, and good instructors can make you.
As a teacher, sifu Rister is able to adapt to the student's skill
level. He knows what is the right challenge for the student, in daily training
as well as for longer time periods. He guides students from absolute
beginners to professionals, who confront violence in their daily
work. He is constantly developing his art further, and he knows what is
beyond the pure skill development of a martial artist.
What I didn't expect from this art was that you don't have to be
dealing with violence in your work to benefit from this art in
your daily life. I would never had expected that martial
arts could improve for example one's social skills. Nowadays I'm able to
express myself more freely: For example in work I can give
presentations or work with large groups of people without any outside
pressure. I would recommend sifu Rister to anyone who is interested in
effective martial art or self development. We in Finland respect the
fortune we have had to study this art. If you have the opportunity to
experience it yourself, you should make use of it.
